The Palm<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jumeirah history began in the 1990s, when the idea was conceived with its construction starting in 2001. In 2006, the handing over of the land to the residents and property constructors was announced, and by 2007, the new land welcomed its first residents. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The construction ended in 2008, and on the coast of Jumeirah the palm<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">tree-resembling island was formally inaugurated on 30 April 2009. At the time, around 500 families resided on the archipelago, and many of the properties were ready to be handed over. The island was constructed in such a way as to protect it from heavy sea waves and prevent damage to the land. a<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0total of 120 million cubic metres of sand obtained from the seabed is used in its construction. The sand used the technique of Vibro-compaction to assemble the loose sand densely by saturating it with water and vibrating it with probes. a<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> breakwater was created around the island using geotextile and sand, 11.5 km long and 3 metres tall. This method would break the sea waves and keep the island protected. t<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">o maintain the island of Jumeirah&#8217;s exact shape, a private satellite was installed 676 km up that used the Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) to maintain the exact shape of the palm tree carving.
