Palm Jebel Ali, Dubai

In October 2002, Dubai began the construction of an artificial island or an archipelago in the United Arab Emirates. It is estimated to be completed and ready for tourism by the middle of 2008. However, it has been on hold ever since then. This planned artificial island of Dubai is known as Palm Jebel Ali. Creative Kingdom did the master planning for this archipelago, and the set up of entertainment centres was to be done by Leisure Quest International. This company in the United States was also responsible for setting up places of attraction here to increase foreign revenue.

Palm Jebel Ali was set to be at least 50% larger than the previous project, the Palm Jumeirah. It was set up to have six marinas, homes and even boardwalks. An entire sea village, a water theme park, was proposed to be hosted here. The infrastructure and construction began here in April 2007, after the water break was completed in December 2006. However, after the financial crisis seen in 2008, the construction and future work here was suspended.

After Nakheel confirmed that no future constructions should be done here, several contractors were approached to construct residential and commercial properties. The future constructions here are estimated to house several residential units, lavish hotels and spacious offices. Villas are also a part of this mega project hosted in Palm Jebel Ali.
