Everything About The ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon

The ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon is organised by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and is one of the most important events of the year. Aspiring racers of all ages can participate in the event. Marathoners strive to win colossal prizes of up to $50,000 by touching the finish line first! Registering for the event will get you a race kit, which includes an event t-shirt, timing tags, bibs, and other items.

In 2022, the ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon will be held on Saturday, 17th December 2022, from 06:30 AM – 11:00 PM.

• Types of Abu Dhabi Marathon Races

You can choose to participate in any of the 5 categories of races listed below:

• • Marathon

Participants will get a chance to run across the heart of Abu Dhabi on a 42.195 km track that passes through spectacular landmarks while being cheered on by the public. The marathon will begin and conclude at ADNOC HQ Towers with a cut-off of 06:00 A.M. Differently-abled people can choose to participate in the wheelchair category. The entry fee for the marathon is AED 350, which excludes VAT. 

• • Marathon Relay Teams Of 2

This race is a brilliant way to bond with your best buddy or your better half. A race for two, this marathon relay team of two requires one runner to finish 22 km while the other will continue the remaining race of approximately 20 km. ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon introduced this category this year, and the cut-off time is again 6 hours for this race. The entry fee for this race is AED 550, which excludes VAT

• • 10 km Road Race

If you prefer running shorter distances, and recreation and entertainment matter to you the most, this race is for you. Enjoy the pleasant weather of Abu Dhabi and gaze at the beauty and charm of the city while running the stretch of 10 km of the Abu Dhabi Corniche. The wheelchair race category is also available for differently-abled people. The entry fee for the 10 km road race is AED 150, which excludes VAT.

• • 5 km Road Race

Have you just developed this passion for running? Go for the 5 km road race to achieve your fitness goals and test your capabilities. The entry fee for the 5 km Road Race is AED 75, which excludes VAT

• • 2.5 km Fun Run

Want to have fun? Enrol yourself and your family members for this race! This race has no time limit, and there are no losers-just winners. Have a jolly run with your family or make new friends and just experience the bliss of running, walking, or jogging around the emirate. The entry fee for the 2.5 fun run is AED 50, which excludes VAT.

ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon 2022 Route

One of the key objectives behind organising the Abu Dhabi Marathon and participating in the event is to experience the iconic wonders and landmarks of the capital city. The route is designed in a manner that allows you to gaze at and appreciate the beauty, heritage, and charm of Abu Dhabi. The marathon starts at the ADNOC headquarters in front of the Founders Memorial. Marathoners will cross the Corniche, run along Qasr Al Hosn, and pass the Emirates Heritage Village.

You will then pass through Marina Mall and run through King Abdullah Street before returning to the Corniche. Other spectacular places on the route include the Crown Prince’s Court, the Al Bateen Palace, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, and the World Trade Centre Abu Dhabi. The finish line is the ADNOC HQ Event Village. The short-distance races will start at the Nation Towers’ front on Corniche Road and finish on Al Marsan Street. 

ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon 2022 Prize Money

The cumulative prize money for the runners winning the ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon 2022 is approximately AED 36 million. Here is what you can win:

Male and female elite category winners get prize money worth approximately AED 183,650 each. If you are lucky and brave enough to break the record, you can win an additional prize of approximately AED 110,000. Currently, the record is 2:04:40 for males and 2:21:01 for females

• • The winner of the wheelchair race gets a cash prize of AED 29,000
  • The winner of the 10 km race gets a cash prize of AED 40,000

Entry Requirements for Participants

Whether you are a 6-year-old child or a 70-year-old, you can participate in the grand ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon. Winning is not the ulterior motive, but having fun, meeting new people, and spending time with friends and family is the highlight of this event.

For participation, the event follows strict rules and regulations laid out by:

  • ADSC – Abu Dhabi Sports Council

The priority is to ensure the safety of all participants and organisers. You may be required to submit a negative PCR report taken within 48 hours, which the authorities will verify before you are allowed to participate.

The fourth edition of the increasingly popular ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon is expected to attract a record 20,000 entrants this year, which is 65% higher than last year’s 12,000 entrants. Ahead of the December 17 race, organisers have confirmed the circuit, a stunning new street that circles some of the UAE capital’s most famous landmarks. 

The changes made to the ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon highlight the organisers’  commitment to providing the best marathon experience to the participants. Some of these changes include an increased focus on community-centric events in keeping with the tradition from the previous years.
